Not only today's favourite energy saving light bulb but also pleasing to the eye. This stunning photo shows off the 2013 San Francisco project that was originally planned to be in place for just a couple of years is now a permanent feature of the famous American skyline involving of seventy thousand LEDs.

Described as an "energy-efficient work of art" this breathtaking display is not the only awe-inspiring vision on offer.  Over on the east coast the Charlotte Rail Trail is being upgraded from a mere connecting path to various neighbours in the North Carolina city and will feature four and a half mile lighting display along its route, really proving that LED is becoming a serious component of regeneration and redesigning of public areas and tourist attractions.
